All About Florenceville-Bristol

 The villages of Florenceville and Bristol were amalgamated in 2008 to form the Town of Florenceville-Bristol. Located in the northwestern part of New Brunswick and within the Saint John River Valley, it is minutes from the Canada/USA border and directly off the Trans-Canada Highway. 


Effective January 1st 2023, The Town of Florenceville-Bristol, The Village of Bath, The Village of Centreville and surrounding LSD areas merged to form the District of Carleton North.  For more information on the new District of Carleton North, please click here. 


The Town of Florence-Bristol is known as the "French Fry Capital of the World" and the region is known as the Potato Belt of New Brunswick. 

Being in the Potato Belt, there is a high concentation of farms in the surrounding area, as well as food processing plants, and produce packing facilities. Florenceville-Bristol is home to the corporate headquarters for McCain Foods. They are one of the world's largest manufacturers of frozen French fries and potato specialties. 


 According to Statistics Canada, the Town of Florenceville-Bristol has a population of 1,573 as of the 2021 census.

Education

 Education Options 

The New Brunswick Department of Education and Early Childhood Development are responsible for public education from Kindergarten through to Grade 12. Education from kindergarten to grade 12 is free for all residents of New Brunswick. Schooling is mandatory for children from ages 5 (as of December 31) to 18 or until graduation (up to a maximum age of 21). Being the only official bilingual province, the New Brunswick public school system offers its students the opportunity to receive education in English or in French.

Registration 

Students are assessed at the local school. You will need to call ahead and make an appointment. Please bring all the appropriate documentation (see below). 


Documentation for Elementary & Secondary Level Registration 

Before going to the school, you will need to call ahead to better assist you and the office staff. If you have any copies of current school records, samples of your child’s work, and reports that may assist the school in program/placement of your child, you will need to take them with you at the time of registration. 

You will need to provide ALL of the following information before you can register your child for school (original documents ONLY): 

Proof of child’s age - Birth Certificate or Passport 

Proof of address - Copy of offer to purchase/lease, copy of property tax bill, or copy of utility bill with your name 

Children’s health card 

Proof of citizenship - Birth Certificate, Passport, Record of Landing (IMM1000), or Permanent Resident Card 

Valid work permit (must be 1 year minimum) 

School transcripts 

Immunization Record – Proof that your child has been immunized, according to the recommended immunization schedule in New Brunswick against Diphtheria, Mumps, Polio, Red Measles, Rubella, and Tetanus. 


Newcomer Support Centre 

The Newcomer Support Centre welcomes Kindergarten to Grade 12 students of the following categories: (1) born outside of Canada, (2) born in Canada, but whose home language is not English and (3) Canadian citizens, who are returning to New Brunswick from overseas. 

If your family is immigrating to Canada or if one or both parents have a valid study or work permit, please contact iwcfredericton@nbed.nb.ca to discuss admission and request the pre-registration form.

The River Art Centre is an extension of the Art Gallery. It is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to increase access, awareness and appreciation of art in the community. The NCCC is home to an area, year-round walking track and a meeting room. Outside recreational facilities include a baseball/softball diamond, tennis court, volleyball court, outdoor swimming pool, playground, beach volleyball and a soccer field. The NCCC is also host to many events through the year, including festivals, the annual Spring Show and Sale, concerts and special events. 


River Valley Gymnastics
