All About London


The city of London is the largest city in southwestern Ontario and the 10th largest in Canada. According to the 2021 Census, London has a population of 422,324.


London is located on the Thames River, mid-way between Toronto and Detroit. The Thames River dominates the City with the North and South branches of the river connecting at the centre of the city in what is known as “The Forks”.


Climate

London has a moderate climate with four distinct seasons:

      • Winter (Dec to March) – This is the coldest season of the year and the area is typically covered in snow and ice. Average daily temperatures in winter are between 2°C and -12° C.
      • Spring (March to June)– The snow and ice begin to melt. Foliage begins to appear. Spring can bring rain. Daily temperatures average between -6°C and 22°C.
      • Summer (June to September) – summer is usually warm to hot with an average daily temperature of 20°C to 30°C.
      • Fall/Autumn (September to December) – the cooler temperatures return, and leaves start to change colour and fall from the trees.  Temperatures can begin to drop below freezing at night. The temperature can average between -1°C to 20°C.

London is serviced by VIA Rail with connections to Windsor, Toronto, and Montreal. The Canadian National Railway (CNR) also runs through the city.

London International Airport is the 12th busiest passenger airport in Canada.

Thames Valley District School Board 
The Thames Valley District School Board is public English language school board. TVDSB serves an area over 7,000 square kilometres which includes urban, suburban and rural communities. It spans three counties and includes the cities of London, St. Thomas, and Woodstock, plus the towns of  Ingersoll, Tillsonburg, and Strathroy-Caradoc, as well as several smaller towns and villages.
