  • How to apply for your BC Health Insurance 

The Medical Services Plan (MSP) insures medically required services provided by general practitioners, specialists and supplementary health care practitioners, laboratory services and diagnostic procedures.  All residents of British Columbia must enroll in MSP. 

Who is Eligible?

An individual must be a resident of B.C. in order to qualify for medical coverage under MSP. A resident is a person who meets all of the following conditions:

·  Must be a citizen of Canada or be lawfully admitted to Canada for permanent residence

·  Must make his or her home in B.C.

·  Must be physically present in B.C. at least 6 months in a calendar year; and

·  Dependents of MSP beneficiaries are eligible for coverage if they are residents of B.C.

How to Register

You can register with MSP in the following ways:

·  Apply online

·  Apply in person at a ServiceBC location

·  Apply using the paper application form

    

If MSP coverage is available through your employer, union or pension plan, contact that office for information about group applications. Any existing self-administered account will be cancelled by MSP when your group application is processed.

Premiums

Medical Services Plan (MSP) premiums were eliminated as of January 1, 2020. 


Health Fee for International Students

All students studying on a valid study permit for at least six months of the year in British Columbia must pay a health fee to contribute to and benefit from B.C.’s health-care coverage.  This includes Kindergarten to Grade 12 and post-secondary international students.  The fee is $75/month and you will be invoiced monthly by Revenue Services BC
