All About Coquitlam

The City of Coquitlam is located in the lower mainland of British Columbia. 

 

Coquitlam is mainly a suburban city and is one of the 21 municipalities which comprise Metro Vancouver. 

 

Coquitlam is located just east of Vancouver, where the Coquitlam River connects with the Fraser River and extends northeast along the Pitt River toward the Coquitlam and Pitt Lakes. Coquitlam is bordered by Burnaby and Port Moody to the west, New Westminster


Coquitlam is part of the Tri-Cities along with Port Coquitlam, Port Moody and the villages of Anmore and Belcarra.


The population of Coquitlam is 148,625 residents (2021 census).


Government

The City of Coquitlam is governed by an elected Mayor and eight elected Councilors.  City Council is responsible for local government leadership and decision making in the City. Elections are held every four years.

Recreation

Coquitlam offers programs and recreational activities for all ages and abilities, along with fully equipped pools, community centres, libraries, sports fields, ice rinks and sports arenas. The City currently maintains over 80 parks featuring trails and bike paths, playgrounds, sports fields, and picnic areas.

Amenities include a free form wave pool with water sprays and a lazy river, slide, rope swing, an eight lane Olympic-sized lap pool, relation area with whirlpool and steam room.

 

Poirier Sports & Leisure Complex

The Poirier Sport & Leisure Complex is a 190,000 square foot, ice and fitness facility with a lap pool, a leisure therapy pool, a relaxation area with whirlpool, steam room and dry sauna, diving boards, and indoor fitness track.


The Poirier Forum is located across the street from the Sports & Leisure Complex and offers 25,000 square feet of multipurpose space which can be used for lacrosse, ball hockey and soccer.
