All About Fort St. John
The City of Fort St. John is a city in northeastern British Columbia, Canada. The most populous municipality of the Peace River Regional District, the city encompasses a total area of about 22 square kilometres.
The population of Fort St. John is 21,465 residents (2021 Census).
Fort St. John is located at Mile 47 and is one of the largest cities along the Alaska Highway. It was originally established in 1794 as a trading post and is the oldest European-established settlement in present-day BC.
The municipal slogan is Fort St. John: The Energetic City.
Government
The City of Fort St. John has a six-member council, along with one mayor. Council is elected at-large every three years.

The City of Fort St. John Recreation & Leisure Guide is a quarterly publication that highlights all programs, events, courses, and activities put on by the Recreation & Leisure Services Department. The guide also features information on parks, facility bookings, bylaws, and contains a community directory for organizations that offer specific recreation and leisure programs.
The Recreation & Leisure Guide is available online and hard copies are available for viewing at the North Peace Leisure Pool and Fort St. John Visitor Centre (inside the Pomeroy Sport Centre).
Recreation Facilities
Pomeroy Sports Centre
The Pomeroy Sport Centre, is a beautiful ice facility and sport event centre unparalleled in British Columbia. The first floor of this three-floor facility features 2 NHL sized ice rinks, a concession, skate sharpening vendor, 12 dressing rooms, and a public meeting room.
The second floor is home to a Booster Juice outlet, a meeting room, and has one of only four indoor Olympic-sized long track speed skating ovals in North America (others being in Utah, Wisconsin and Calgary). Made with a concrete base, this level can also be used for other events with 60,000 square feet of usable space during non-ice seasons.
The third floor of this facility is home to the Northern Vac Track. The walking track is 340 meters around with heated tubing throughout.
North Peace Leisure Pool
The North Peace Leisure Pool is owned by the Peace River Regional District and operated by the City of Fort St. John. It is located on 100th Street next to the North Peace Arena.
The facility consists of a leisure pool and a 25-meter lap pool. The Leisure pool has a zero beach at one end and a maximum depth of 1.5 meters (five feet) at the other end. It has waves, a rapid channel and spray and squirt features.
The lap pool has 6 lanes. The shallow end is 1 meter (3.6 feet) deep and 3.7 meters (12.1 feet) at the deep end. There is also a 3 meter and 1-meter dive platforms. Other amenities include two full-size water slides, sauna, steam room, whirlpool, family change rooms, cardio fitness room and a meeting room.
North Peace Arena
The City of Fort St John is home to the North Peace Arena which has an ice surface measuring 200 feet x 85 feet and can accommodate ice and non-ice events, including trade shows and concerts. Seating capacity for ice events is 1550 and 450 standing room or 3500 for non-ice events.
