All About Prince Rupert

The City of Prince Rupert is a marine city, located on Kaien Island, at the mouth of the majestic Skeena River, on BC's beautiful Pacific North Coast.  It is the  transportation hub of BC's North Coast and is the gateway  for Asia-North American trade.

The population is 12,300 (2021 census).


Prince Rupert is situated on Kaien Island, north of the mouth of the Skeena River and linked to the mainland by a short bridge.  The city is located approximately 770km north of Vancouver (1457km by highway).


Prince Rupert is located at the western terminus of the Trans-Canada Highway 16 (the Yellowhead Highway).  It is located approximately 140km west of Terrace and 715km west of Prince George.


The Prince Rupert port is Asia's closest port of entry on the west coast.

Transportation

The Port of Prince Rupert is located in a sheltered harbour and is the deepest ice-free natural harbour in North America, and the 3rd deepest in the world.  The harbour is the last port of call for cargo ships travelling between eastern Asia and western North America.


Passenger ferries operate from Prince Rupert to Vancouver Island, Ketchikan, Juneau and Sitka.

Prince Rupert Airport is located on Digby Island and only accessible by ferry.


CN Rail runs from Prince Rupert to Valmount, BC.


Via Rail also connects Prince Rupert with Prince George, and Jaspar several times per week.

Prince Rupert Recreation Centre is comprised of the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre and the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre.  The Earl Mah Aquatic Centre offers an indoor pool, tot pool, sauna, hot tub and a fitness area.  The Jim Ciccone Civic Centre offers the Russell Gamble Gymnasium, activity rooms, an auditorium, arts room, crafts rooms and an ice arena.

Curling Club

Located in Seal Cove in Prince, the Prince Rupert Curling Club is the host of many events in Prince Rupert, both curling and non-curling related. Golf Course

The Prince Rupert Golf Club is an 18-hole course tucked just behind Mount Hays in Prince Rupert. The lush grounds are home to the avid golfing community of Prince Rupert, who often brave the rain to play. Each year the Golf Club hosts numerous charity golf scrambles, tournaments, and more.
