Regina is the capital city of Saskatchewan. It is the second largest in the province after Saskatoon and is the cultural and commercial metropole for south Saskatchewan. Regina has a population of 226,404 (2021 census)

Regina is the Canadian city closest to the geographical centre of North America at the latitude of 50 26' and a longitude of 104 37'. The altitude is 577.4 metres above sea level.

Regina International Airport is situated on the west of the city and is the oldest established commercial airport in Canada.

Elementary & Secondary Overview


In Saskatchewan, Kindergarten Grade 12 (K-12) education is a shared responsibility between the Ministry of Education, under the authority of the Minister of Education, and locally elected boards of education. Under provincial legislation,the Ministry of Education under the authority of the Minister,has the responsibility to establish the goals and objectives of the educational system; to prepare and distribute recommendations and advice on the management of schools and school divisions; to establish regulations authorizing provincial courses of instruction and to provide courses of study or curriculum guides pertaining to these courses; to provide lists of prescribed or recommended curriculum resource materials; and to make regulations for the classification and certi ication of teachers.

 

Provincial legislation provides for the election local school boards of education which have responsibility to manage and administer the Kindergarten to Grade 12 school system in their school division, within the regulations and guidelines set out by the Ministry.

 

Education in Saskatchewan is generally divided by Elementary (Kindergarten to Grade 8), followed by Secondary (Grade 9 to 12) and (University or College). then Secondary Curriculum All publicly funded schools teach a curriculum of learning set out by the Government of Saskatchewan Ministry of Learning. The curriculum sets out develop skills, knowledge and understanding to improve the quality of life. Due to the amount of detailed information on the Curriculum, we have provided a link where further information can be found.

Regina Public Schools

Regina Public School Division is the largest school division in Saskatchewan, serving the needs of 23,000 students 44 public elementary schools and 8 public high schools.

 

New to the Community

Regina Public Schools operate operates using the boundary system. Based on your address, your children go to the designated school within the neighbourhood. To locate your home school, please contact the Transportation Department at 306-523-3000 or visit Attendance Boundaries. You can enroll your child outside your school provided the school has availability and this would be a year by year request. If you choose to enroll your child outside your home school then you will be responsible for transporting your child as bussing will not be provided.

Registration

If you are moving from within Canada, you can register directly at your home school. Before going to the school, please call ahead so that staff can prepare for your visit.

 

If you are new to Canada, and either an elementary or high school-age student, please visit the Regina Newcomer Welcome Centre.

 

You will need to provide ALL of the following information before you can register your child for school (Original documents ONLY):

 

· Registration Form

· Proof of child’s age - Birth Certificate or Passport

· Children’s healthcard

· Proof of citizenship and age - Birth Certificate, Passport, Record of Landing (IMM1000), or Permanent Resident Card

· Valid work permit (must be 1 year minimum)

· School transcripts (if possible)

· Immunization Record – proof that your child has been immunized, according to the recommended immunization schedule, against Diphtheria, Mumps, Polio, Red Measles, Rubella, and Tetanus.
